So I seemed to have significantly reduce the breakage I was experiencing. Thanks god! I was freaking out last week. I pretty much stopped using that scalp growth conditioner because it just had too much protein and I wasn't able to balance it out. I did use it on my scalp last night and pre-pooed with EVCO as usual. I need to use this thing up somehow and I figure this would be the safest bet because I can wash it out and follow up with a moisturizing DC. I had a significant amount of shedding too, but nothing too crazy.
Last night:
- Gently finger combed hair while rinsing under the shower (I no longer comb my hair when dry--huge difference in how much hair I lose now that I've made this change)
- Allowed hair to air dry slightly until damp/dry then applied EVCO
- Applied growth scalp conditioner to scalp only; massage
- Put on plastic cap and let sit overnight
Today:
- Clarified then followed up with a moisturizing poo (OMG the clarifying poo stripped the hell out of my hair)
- DC with Mizani Kerafuse (protein) allow to sit for 45 min w/ heat
- Rinse and DC with Mizani Hydrafuse (moisture) allow to sit for 1 hour w/ heat (30 min w/heat, 30 min w/out heat)
with DC I added appropriate oils: 1/4 tsp each of EVCO, EVOO, Avocado oil (to protein) and 1/4 tsp each of EVCO, Castor oil/EVOO blend, jojoba oil and 1/2 tsp honey (to moisture). I also applied EVCO and shea butter to hair prior to applying oil and prepped scalp with JBCO (3 drps rosemary, 2 drps lavender and 2 drps sage EO) so that DC doesn't sit directly on scalp (itches and irritate me otherwise).
Hair felt very smooth and stronger with a lot less breakage after using the Kerafuse. Hair felt soft, dense, had slip and felt and moisturized after Hydrafuse. Makes me want to reconsider giving them up. I think the change I see is because I have added oils to these DC where I never use to do this before (not sure why...) but despite the benefits I am seeing now I have no plan on continuing with these two products due to their ingredients and how they irritate my scalp (hense the oiled scalp prior to using). I hope it's not going to be a mistake.
ETA: My scalp was very irritated the next day due to the Hydrafuse/Kerafuse. I will be glad to be rid of these products. I'd throw them away now, but there is only a small amount left, they were expensive and they do work on my hair.
